Donations and help for Ukraine - A bridge of solidarity
March 15, 2022
The town of Erzhausen near Frankfurt, the hometown of one of our employees, organized help for its Ukrainian twin town – the Peter Ustinov Foundation was happy to help.
Ivanichy is located in the far west of Ukraine, near the border with Poland. Mayor Claudia Lange and the crisis team of the city of Erzhausen discussed in advance with the mayor of Ivanychi and the local hospital what was most urgently needed. Then everything happened very quickly: Erzhausen's SVE, the refugee aid organization, Vergiss-Mein-Nicht. eV, the partnership association, the local pharmacy, the volunteer fire department and the local branch of the German Red Cross specifically appealed for donations and the response was overwhelming.
The following weekend, four vehicles were sent to the Ukrainian-Polish border with particularly needed relief supplies such as medical aid, camping stoves and gas cartridges, food, blankets, bedding and other material resources. From there, the relief supplies were loaded into Ukrainian vehicles and taken directly to Ivanychi. On the way back, the helpers took five adults and 4 children and young people with them to Erzhausen, where they were taken in by host families.
The bridge of help that has already been built is being expanded further. The Forget-Me-Not association has purchased a 7,5-ton truck specifically for the transport, which will remain in Ukraine and serve well there. Last weekend, on March 11, aid and donations were again sent directly to Ukraine.
The Peter Ustinov Foundation bows to the great commitment of the people of Erzhausen and is happy to support this ongoing aid campaign.
